YOUR BROTHERS
KEEPER
All things to me are lawful,
but all things are not profitable; all things to me
are lawful, but all things do not build up; let
no one seek his own -- but each another's.
1 Corinthians 10:23, 24 YLT
The King James
Version of the Bible adds the word ‘wealth’ to the
end of the passage, and that can be confusing to
some. When read from Young’s Literal Translation,
meaning it was translated verbatim with nothing
added, it becomes a bit clearer. Christians are not
to be self seeking. Our primary concern should be
for the welfare of others, always!
Everything Jesus
taught was about the commandment of love. Love thy
neighbor as thyself is what He said. It was not a
suggestion, it was a command. As Paul wrote to the
Corinthians, if even eating meat offends my brother,
then I will never eat meat again.
(1 Corinthians 8:13)
We have certain
rights as born again believers, but those rights do
not include getting our way at the expense of
others. We are told to lift up those of lesser
faith, not force our rights on them. Paul told the
Galatians to bear one another’s burden, and fulfill
the law of Christ.
If you wish to be
all that God wants you to be, then get yourself off
your mind and start looking for ways to help
others. Jesus told us over and over again to give
alms, feed the hungry, cloth the naked, and visit
those in prison. We are not to judge unless we want
to be judged. Don’t condemn or you will be
condemned. Have mercy and receive mercy. Forgive
and be forgiven. Give and it will be given unto you
in abundance.
1 Peter 5:6, 7
says: Humble yourselves therefore under the
mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due
time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth
for you.
God never intended
for you to take care of yourself, that’s the way of
the world. We are to take care of others and let
God take care of us through others, that way we both
get blessed. Have faith in God to take care of you
and go find someone to bless.
